Wool allergies are extremely rare. Most allergy sufferers react to dyes in wool processing, or to preservatives, bleaches, and softeners used in wool products.
The direct allergic reaction to wool is due to residues of wool fat - the so-called lanolin. Lanolin is a natural substance produced by sheep.
Tip: If you want to find out if you are allergic to alpaca wool, visit one of the many breeders and touch the fluffy fur.
Alpaca wool is usually untreated and does not contain lanolin, so allergy sufferers often tolerate alpaca products well.
Tip: Our alpaca duvets do not contain lanolin!
